University of Southern California

August 2021 - May 2023

For graduate school, I am at the University of Southern California for a Master of Science in Transportation Engineering. Graduating in May 2023, I choose the program for several reasons. Its location is in Los Angeles, a city with multiple rail projects in the works. The curriculum is customizable and allows me to take advantage of all my interests - rail, urban planning, and transportation engineering. The university is diverse, which is very important to me coming from another diverse state and school in the United States. Overall, the transportation engineering masters program will expand my knowledge within transit design and be the gateway to working on the rail projects that excite me. I have taken Policy Issues in Transportation, Smart Growth and Urban Sprawl, Design of Transportation Facilities, and Urban Mass Transit so far. For the remainder of my degree, I plan to take Introduction to Transportation Planning Law, Geographic Information Systems for Policy, Planning, & Development, Supply Chain Management, and Railroad Engineering.

On campus, I am heavily involved in VGSA (Viterbi Graduate Student Association and SHPE (the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers). In VGSA, I serve as a senator within the Civil and Environmental Engineering department. Within this role, I organize events that are catered to the CEE grad students that are focused on social, wellness, career, and academics. In SHPE, I am one of the graduate committee members. With the help of committee members, I assist in the execution of events for Latinx graduate students and recruit members. Additionally, I am involved with the ASCE USC chapter, ITE USC, and SC Outfitters as a general member.
